In the EU Parliament

Gerard Batten attends the plenary sessions of the Parliament in order to oppose legislation harmful to Britain. In 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the Security and Defence Committee and was UKIP’s spokesman on that subject.

In 2009 he became a member of the Justice and Home Affairs and Civil Liberties Committee’ and will devote special attention to the erosion of our civil liberties by the European Union by such means as the European Arrest Warrant, Trials in Absentia, the common recognition of fines and confiscation orders, and the ‘harmonisation’ of member states legal systems.

Gerard Batten is a member of the European of Freedom of Democracy Group in the Parliament. The EFD Group contains MEPs from nine countries who are only linked by their opposition to an increasingly undemocratic European Union. Gerard Batten sits in the group on a voluntary basis and only to gain procedural and political benefit for his Party and cause.

He is a prolific speaker in the Parliament on a multitude of subjects, He uses his speeches to draw attention to the damage being done to Britain by membership of the EU, in terms of the economy, the destruction of our democracy, and the undermining of the judicial system. His speeches usually end with a call for Britain to leave the EU.

MEPs are usually restricted to speaking times of 60 or 90 seconds, sometimes a little longer.
